Department of European Law

Ivan Franko National University of Lviv

The Department of European Law belongs to the Faculty of International Relations. The Faculty of International Relations was founded in 1992. Now the structure of the Faculty includes 9 departments, the Centre of Nordic Countries, Institute of European Integration, International Security and Partnership Centre, Laboratory of Country Studies, Publishing Centre. Among them, the Department of European Law is one of the first in Ukraine and this year celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Besides the regular staff, well-known professors and researchers from the USA, Canada, Germany, Austria, Poland, Sweden, Great Britain, Switzerland, the Netherlands and other countries worked at the Faculty. Students and staff of the Faculty participate in international programmes and projects: TEMPUS-TACIS “Teaching European Law at the Universities of Ukraine”, “Higher Education: Leadership for Progress”, “Commercial Diplomacy”, Partnership of Lviv and Oregon (the USA) Universities, “Ecology of the Baltic Sea”, “Peoples of the Baltic” and “Sustainable Baltic Region” within the project “Baltic University”, which lets our students and staff to take part in different scientific conferences both in Ukraine and abroad.

This department is a UACES group member through our collaboration with USAID Justice for All Activity.

The USAID Justice for All Activity (J4A) in collaboration with the University Association for Contemporary European Studies is supporting Ukrainian law schools in their efforts to improve the teaching of EU law to help raise new generations of Ukrainian legal professionals with solid understanding of and skills to apply EU law to advance Ukraine’s integration into the EU. To this end, J4A supports Ukrainian law schools in building bridges with foreign law schools with expertise in EU law for international experience exchange and collaboration. J4A also facilitates the development of a network/community of practice composed of Ukrainian instructors of EU law and seeks to create learning and development opportunities for Ukrainian law schools and their faculty and channel them through such a network/community of practice for greater engagement, closer people-to-people contacts, and continuous improvement.
