Department of Political, Historical, Religious and Cultural Studies attracts students who want to deepen their knowledge in the historical and political fields and in religion/ethics and culture. Courses and degree programmes are offered in the subjects of history, cultural studies, religious studies, civics and political science, usually with a focus on regional, national and global contexts.
Degree programmes have a clear professional profile relating to different sectors such as education, politics, administration and culture. A considerable part of departmental activities involves teacher education courses for primary and secondary school levels.
All subjects in the department can be the main field of study for a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree (60 or 120 credits), and offer in addition many courses on campus and as distance education full-time or part-time.
Many members of staff are engaged in different research groups and research projects. Some researchers and PhD students within the department are also part of the Centre for Research on Sustainable Societal Transformation, in conjunction with other social science subjects, and also in subject-specific education linked to the Centre for Social Science Education (CSD). Researchers in the subjects geography, civics and religious studies are also active members of CSD.
